Adding an Addition to a Tiny Log Cabin
About ten years ago, my friend’s parents bought a tiny log cabin and shoehorned it into her back yard. They have been living in Florida and staying in the cabin for a few weeks or so every summer.
Now that they’ve decided to move to North Carolina permanently, they need more space.
These are the original plans. They had a screened in porch at one end and a tiny bedroom at the other end. There is a higher ceiling over the living room. The kitchen, bathroom and small bedroom have a low ceiling to create a storage area above.
The screened in front porch was great, but they really needed more living space.
They’ve enclosed the front porch and turned it into a bedroom. They matched the logs perfectly!
And they are adding a large addition and a deck.
The addition is made of the same logs as the cabin.
See the walls side by side?
Inside it is left unfinished, like the original cabin.
The high ceiling and all the windows makes the room feel even bigger than it is.
The Heat/Air is high, so it won’t interfere with anywhere you want to put furniture.
Much of the year the fan will be enough to keep the log cabin comfortable.
This was the exterior wall of the original log cabin. An archway joins the two.
The wide archway brings all the light and openness of the new addition into the tiny original cabin.
The walls of the addition are left unfinished, except for the wall that used to be the outside wall.
They have upgraded all of the windows, too.
The work is being done by Julian Chapman. He has done a wonderful job!
