Changing the Rest of the Door Knobs
The house came with Satin Nickel door hardware. I don’t really care for Satin Nickel. I bought reproduction glass door knobs. They did not work out. Old door knobs use a smaller hole than new door knobs. We could only use them on the closets.
Cliff was less enthusiastic about the glass door knobs all along. We “compromised” when he showed me the Brookshire door hardware from Schlage.
Brookshire Trim comes with knobs or levers. The levers are available in different styles. The Birmingham Lever works on either side of the door. The Accent, Callington and Flair Levers have to be ordered the right way so that the lock is on the inside. They also have non-turning handles for closets, but we don’t need those.
They come in Bright Brass, Antique Brass, Satin Nickel, Matte Black, and Aged Bronze finishes. Not all of them are available in all finishes.
Accent levers comes in all five finishes.
Flair levers come in Bright Brass, Antique Brass, Satin Nickel, and Aged Bronze.
Callington levers come in Antique Brass, Satin Nickel, and Aged Bronze.
Birmingham levers only come in Satin Nickel, and Aged Bronze.
I really like the Birmingham Lever. I could not decide between that and the Flair. Aged Bronze was a good match for the metal on the glass door knobs.
Then Cliff got a deal on the Brookshire Accent Complete House Door Hardware Package. So, that’s what we have.
It came as a kit with all of the exterior locks and interior doorknobs for a standard house.

For the front door the kit included this great long door handle. It does not lock. Above is a deadbolt to lock the door.
The kit came with two deadbolts (B60N-BRK). We put the other one on the door from the back porch to our bedroom.
We have a keypad Nexia deadbolt on the other exterior doors. (It’s good to have more than one digital lock, so that if you don’t have your keys with you and have been ignoring the signal that the lock battery is going and end up locked out, you don’t end up crawling into the house through the doggie door.)
I wrote a post about the Nexia locks when we first put them into the log cabin. The cabin is a vacation rental now. We still use the same app to control the locks on those doors, the thermostats and the cameras and doors in the new house.
The kit came with enough lever handle sets for all of the doors in the house that don’t already have the glass door knobs.
One is not quite right. There is a left and a right to the handle sets. The one for Cliff’s office had to be installed upside down. Unless we wanted to put the lock on the outside of the door. It looks good this way, too. I doubt anyone else would notice.
I was wrong.

This is what the glass door knobs we put on the closet look like. They are not Schlage.
