Summer Wind: Two Floor Storage Barn to Tiny House?

Summer Wind: Two Floor Storage Barn to Tiny House?

We put the Classic Manor New Day Cabin next to the log cabin. We are looking at using a New Day Cabin or a Summer Wind to build a Tiny House on a little piece of land we own.

Here are photos of the Summer Wind. The Summer Wind has a barn roof. The model is in front of Home Depot. The model is only 16’ x 16’, but we have figured out some floor plans that would fit.

Summer Wind

The two floor storage barn, with endless uses.

The Summer Wind is a two-story country-style barn that can be used for storage space, office space, recreational space – or all of the above.  Add the 36-inch wide staircase complete with balusters, and the access to the upstairs becomes commonplace.  Two floors of multi-purpose usage for you to design!

The stairs take up way more space than we expected.

There is not a lot of room at the foot of the stairs without blocking the stairs.

At least the way this one is configured, there is plenty of space under the stairs.

 Stairs

The stairs are three feet wide. The tread is pretty shallow on the model. They could be steeper and still be within standards…

Upstairs the roof slants in. There is significantly less usable space than the New Day Cabin.

This isn’t as tiny as a lot of Tiny Houses I’ve seen, but for the small difference in price to go to a larger size…

The model has double doors. This is an option. It is great if you are using it as a barn, but if you want to turn this into a Tiny House, a normal door will give you more usable wall space inside.

Compared to other Home Depot sheds, this is big. But there are other options.

Sheds USA sells eight different styles of sheds as well as garages and barns. They have Ready Sheds and Val-U Plus sheds. These come the way they come but you can get them fast. They also have Custom Sheds. You can select options to make them the shed you need.

They have a Shed Outlet. You can get one of the model sheds at a discount. They list them on this page: www.shedsusa.com/products/display-shed-outlet/display-shed-outlet-locations

Summer Wind Tiny House Plans

Here are some of the plans we came up with.

Downstairs Plan Options for 16′ x 16′ Summer Wind or New Day Cabin

This has room for a dishwasher! A small table and chairs fits under the stairs if we erase the washer and dryer.

This idea has a powder room under the stairs. I would fall down the stairs if I had to get up at night. And there is certainly no need for two baths in such a tiny place.

This plan has more closet space. There is even room for a small stack-able washer and dryer upstairs.

Home Depot now sells the Summer Wind Storage Barn and the Sundance 2-Story Building instead of the Classic Manor New Day Cabin.
