Schumacher Homes Kitchen Edits and Selections
We thought we had made all the selections for the kitchen, but there were still more to make.
Schumacher Cross Creek Kitchen – Final >
We did not realize that the original plan has a counter height bar, 34 ½”. We raised it to a bar height bar, 40 ½”.
Schumacher Homes Kitchen Final Plans >
This is the model kitchen.
So, there were still some final decisions to be made for the kitchen.
Lighting
Your home will have three recessed lights in your kitchen, your choice of the location.
We have a walk-through with the electrician to point out where we want switches, outlets and lights. The standard plan is above. It shows the three recessed lights with a switch by the entry from the office and foyer and another switch by the door to the laundry room and our bedroom.
Kitchen Faucet
Included Linden kitchen faucet (chrome)
Single handle kitchen faucet. Spout swivels 120 degrees for added convenience.
The faucet that comes with the house is attractive. There are a lot of finish and style options. We stuck with the standard in chrome. It does not have a sprayer. They have ones with sprayers, but they are where the whole faucet pulls out as a sprayer and I don’t really care for those. I will probably talk Cliff into replacing this eventually, but I can certainly live with it for now.
I do like the undercabinet lighting. I will do something about it later.
Cabinetry
Your home includes maple cabinetry with recessed square panel doors and is manufactured by the industry leader, Merillat, and comes in a variety of stain colors, with hardware. For added architectural appeal your upper kitchen cabinets feature staggered height end cabinets along with 2-1/4″ crown molding. As an added convenience, most kitchen base cabinets come with one middle shelf slide out tray. All doors feature concealed hinges as well as vinyl coated interiors for easy cleaning and low maintenance. Unlike most other cabinets Merrilat has an industry leading 25 year warranty. Your kitchen countertops will be square-edged laminate with a backsplash.
There are a lot of cabinet door options. This was not an easy choice. I loved the medium oak I had in the house before last. The golden color was beautiful in that house. The log cabin is red cedar, so I chose something that complemented the warm rosy color. I don’t really know what the light will be in the new house. I think, with the kitchen being in the corner and the covered porch over the windows, the kitchen will likely have a low light level. We also have the cobalt blue countertops. I chose a sort of in the middle color. Not too light, not too dark. Not grey at all.
There are a lot of choices in the shape of the door, too. I have deeply raised panels in this kitchen. I decided that we didn’t need to spend the extra money. I will be satisfied with the level 1 square panel doors. They are rather like what I picked for the house before the cabin. I really don’t change much.

We paid extra for the deluxe cabinets.
Deluxe cabinets – kitchen only $552.00
Full – extension under-mount guide system with integrated Soft Action closing mechanism on dovetail drawer cores.
Slamming drawers drive me crazy. I bought the soft-close for the log cabin and I love it. So, we decided it was worth it for the new house.
Backsplash
There are a lot of choices of backsplash. We decided against.
Hardware
The hardware for the entire house is included in the price. There are a lot of options and I didn’t love any of them. I have hardware issues. When we remodeled the kitchen in the log cabin we lived without hardware for years until my husband got tired of clawing the cabinets open and picked them out himself. I love those, but there are not enough for the new house. Anyway, I couldn’t decide on anything and finally got a credit to not have the hardware included. We can always claw the cabinets open again in the new house.
Countertops
Solid Surface $3,003.00
Solid Surface offers the durability and ease of maintenance that today’s homeowner demands. It is nonporous, impervious to most household chemicals, and does not promote the growth of mold or mildew. In addition, Solid Surface is also renewable, so minor scuffs and scrapes can be sanded out with just a little elbow grease! Kitchen only.
Laminate/Solid Surface: COLOR: COBALT (E) (500116)
When we first visited the model and I saw the Cobalt Corian countertop as an option, we were pretty sure we were in the right place. I’m not saying we are building the house to get the countertops, but it really was a factor in choosing Schumacher as our builder.
Sink
The stainless steel sink is standard. I think they forgot to delete it. We will have the Corian integrated sink from the line above. Unless they plan to give us two sinks?
