Following Hurricane Katrina, builders, engineers, local officials and citizens worked on a better option to provide intermediate and long-term housing than the 256 square foot FEMA travel trailers. The Katrina Cottage, Mississippi Cottage and Park Models “are manufactured, modular, HUD‐code certified housing units that meet the 2003 International Residential Code (IRC) and can withstand 150 mile per hour wind speeds. They are delivered on wheels and can be installed temporarily or permanently because the removable under‐carriage allows for installation on a permanent foundation.
