Dave Singer with Cedar Creek Cabin Co in Madison, Indiana
This cabin is built with a kit from Cedar Creek Cabin Co. It has a second floor, a large front porch and a small back porch.
The small back porch and back room have board and batten siding.
This one and a half story cabin is built using a log cabin kit.
Board and batten siding completes the exterior of the log cabin.
Cedar Creek Cabin Co.
Cedar Creek Cabin Co. hand crafts traditional style log cabins from scratch using your dream as a blueprint.
Cedar Creek Cabin Co. can work with you to create a kit to build any log cabin you want. Show them blueprints, a picture or a sketch to let them know what you imagine. They will work with you to put together a kit as complete as you want.
How Cedar Creek Cabin Co. Log Cabin Kits are Made
They start with yellow or white pine logs at least 12” thick.
Yellow and/or white pine is our species of choice due to its strength, durability, and grain texture. Its fast drying properties keep shrinkage, settling, and checking to a bare minimum.
Logs are then sawn to a thickness of 6″ while keeping the heart (or core) boxed in (centered) to maintain strength.
Remaining bark is then peeled to allow the chinking to adhere well when applied.
Next, the log shell or walls are notched up. They can produce any notch. The saddle notch has round logs and minimal chinking. Full scribe has round logs that require no chinking. Let them know if you prefer other notching methods.
Cedar Creek Cabin Co. can match other notches, but recommend using a Blind-V notch.
Cedar Creek Cabin Co. Blind-V notch securely locks each log in all four directions. Once the log is set into place, it cannot shift out of position.
The cabin is assembled as it is notched up. Doors and windows are placed to match your plan. Once the shell is completely assembled, the openings are trimmed to specifications.
Finally the log shell is tagged. Each log is tagged with an easy-to-follow tagging system. You don’t have to worry about getting your logs placed in the wrong order.
The tagged log shell is taken down in order, ready to load on your own trailer or to be shipped to you. Unloaded on your site, it is ready to assemble.
Once the log shell arrives on site it’s ready to be set up and the fun begins. Whether you set it up, we do, or a contractor, you will be amazed at how quickly and well it goes together. Now the log cabin you have dreamed of is taking shape and becoming a reality right before your eyes.
Log Cabin Shells
The log shell includes the log walls, door and window openings cut in per customers specs, a cross beam, and a loft beam. Additional rounds, beams, log joist and trusses may be added.
The chinked style log cabin shells start for as little as $24.00 per sq. ft. of ground floor space. This includes door and window openings cut in and trimmed per customers specs, a cross beam, and a loft beam. A small single story cabin will accommodate a sleeping loft with the appropriate pitched roof.
For a full room upstairs you would need a story and a half or full two story. Pricing for a story and a half would be figured at one and a half times the sq. footage of the ground floor and a two story would be twice the sq. footage of the ground floor space.
An example would be a 16×24 log shell has 384 sq. ft. at $24.00 per sq. ft. it is $9,216. That includes the log shell and one overhead beam and 1 loft beam. Log trusses and beams are available.
A shell kit includes all of the logs you need to build a log cabin. Other materials can be found at your local lumber yard.
Log Cabin Kits
You can order a Log Cabin Kit from Cedar Creek Cabin Co. with just the logs or as a complete log cabin kit.
A complete dry-in kit includes everything, all framing, roofing, siding, doors, windows, etc. The sub floor, porch, and loft may be added as well.
A complete dry in kit of this size sells for $11,500.00.
Cedar Creek Cabin Co. kits and shells “can and have been put on wood or concrete pillars, concrete slabs, full foundations, and over basements.” They have the knowledge and experience to help you work with local building codes, too.
Log Cabin Interiors
The interior of the cabin shows the logs and chinking.
Wood flooring in a natural yellow color coordinates beautifully with the yellow pine log walls. I like a painted kitchen with all of the rest in natural wood. I especially like the beadboard fronts on these cabinet doors.
This log cabin has a kitchen made with knotty pine clear finished cabinets.
This larger log cabin has a vaulted ceiling with a second floor on one side.
A metal spiral staircase winds up to the second floor.
All of the structural wood is left visible.
Here is a view of the ceiling. The large window lets in a lot of light.
