Small Modular Cabin Construction: HVAC

The HVAC Plan includes the mini-split heat pump head units (the inside part) and the condenser (the outside part). Plus it includes the bathroom exhaust fan, range hood vent and dryer vent.

HVAC Plan
Details Below

Mini-split Heat Pump
The cabin has two Samsung Quantum Wall Mounted Heat Pump units with Wi-Fi supported by one condensing unit.
- Living Room AR09TSFYBWKNCV 9,000/11,000 Capacity
- Bedroom AR07TSFYBWKNCV 7,000/7,500 Capacity
- Condenser AJ024TXJ3CH/AA 22,000/29,600 Capacity

WME stands for Wall Mounted Evaporator. We put it in the optional location in the kitchen, instead of at the end of the cabin in the living room.
This mini-split has a cooling capacity of 9,000 and heating capacity of 11,000. That means it is appropriate for a room 250 to 450 square feet. One chart says in a well insulated house it can heat or cool up to 1000 square feet, which is bigger than the whole house.

The outdoor compressor heats or cool the air. Then it sends the air to these indoor units. You can see the lines in the construction photo.

This is one of the pictures from the installation guide.

Wires for HVAC and Everything Else
All of the wires and coils and things run through the very center of the cabin ceiling.

The bedroom gets one mini-split. It has a cooling capacity of 7,000 and heating capacity of 7,500. That means it is appropriate for a room 250 to 300 square feet. Even with the high ceiling, this is more then adequate for a 14×12 bedroom.

The condenser is mounted on the back of the cabin, off the bedroom.
Samsung FJM Heat Pump Condensing Unit
This multi-zone residential and light commercial system offers three different indoor units to choose from and multiple control options. With minimal installation space, it’s a flexible option for homes or offices with many rooms.
Free Joint Multi (FJM) unit supports 2 to 5 indoor units for multi-zone control with one outdoor unit.

This is all of the wires and things during construction.

Wet Location Light over Shower
Bathroom Exhaust Fan
The bathroom fan is part of the HVAC plan.

It gets a 4″ vent pipe.

Here’s the duct coming from the bathroom. The porch will end before this.

Range Hood Vent
The plan includes a vent for the microwave. It says that it is not required, though.

This is the plan, but the vent is optional and I didn’t see it coming out of the side of the cabin.

Dryer Vent
The dryer duct goes straight out. That’s one of the reasons we changed the plan, so the duct didn’t have to

This is the dryer duct during construction.
