Changing the Shower Trim Tub Handle to Control Volume and Temperature Separately

Changing the Shower Trim Tub Handle to Control Volume and Temperature Separately

We’ve been really happy with nearly everything about our new house. But I hated the shower control.

You couldn’t control the temperature and the amount of water separately. When I am taking a hot bath, I want to be able to let just a little more hot water into the tub. The control only let you put in cold at low volume. If you wanted hot, it had to be at full blast.

I hated it way more than it deserved. So, we did the research.

It was absolutely no big deal at all to fix!

The tub came with Delta Linden bath hardware. I am perfectly content with it all otherwise.

This is our tub just after they put the tub faucet and control on. I hadn’t noticed yet that it only had the one handle.

It was totally my fault. There were plenty of options.

There it is. The one with two controls. I even took a picture of it.

And here it is in the model.

Exactly the one I got. I just didn’t even think about it.

Research on Delta’s Website

This is the information about the handle we were ordering. It matched the dimensions of the handle we replaced.

Parts to the Delta Shower Handle

These are the parts. We were not clear at first if all the parts we would need would be in the box, but they were.

These are the parts for the Delta Monitor® 17 Series Shower Trim with In2ition. It uses the Delta MultiChoice® Universal Tub / Shower Rough Universal Inlets / Outlets part. Same part we have, so this should be exactly what we need.

I looked up the information on the Delta website. It says our handle is “For use with MultiChoice® Universal rough valve body (R10000 Series).”

So, I just looked for the version of the handle that had separate controls that also said it used the MultiChoice® Universal rough valve body. There were plenty to choose from.

If you want to change out and you see that this is the valve in your wall, now you know you can swap out easily.

We decided on the Delta Faucet Linden 17 Series Dual-Function Shower Handle Valve Trim Kit. In Chrome, of course, to match the rest of the hardware. The product number we ordered is T17094. But anything in the 17 Series will work. They all slip onto the universal valve.

Linden™
Monitor® 17 Series Valve Only Trim
Model#: T17094

  • Valve is not included, must purchase separately
  • Set ideal temperature and adjust volume separately
  • Backed by Delta Faucet’s Lifetime Limited Warranty
  • Utilizes the MultiChoice Universal rough-in feature – order separately
  • Dual function Pressure Balance control – Handle adjusts volume – Dial adjusts temperature
  • Available in chrome, Aged Pewter, Brilliance Stainless or Champagne Bronze

We ordered it on Amazon, so if it didn’t look like it was the right thing we could send it back easily. It was confusing as to what we were going to have to replace and what was going to be in each box. But, if this is what you are replacing, this is the one. All the parts you need are in the box.

It didn’t take my husband long at all to take off the old one and put the new one on.

And now the tub is absolutely perfect.

All you need to order is a Delta Faucet 17 Series Dual-Function Shower Handle Valve Trim Kit.
