Foam & Fabrics Outlet
I always seem to end up at Foam & Fabrics Outlet unintentionally. I was on the way back from another appointment when my phone alerted me that HQ was about to start.
What is HQ?
HQ is a trivia game a lot like Jeopardy that you play on an app on your phone. Everybody plays at the same time. Right now it comes on every night at 9:00 and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00. It is a lot of fun. You win money. You can watch your friends play, too.
I pulled over into the parking lot of Foam & Fabrics Outlet and went in to browse after the game. (I lost. Close, knew everything up to the last question. As soon as I guessed I knew I was wrong…)
Foam and Fabric Outlet is on US-25, about halfway to Asheville from Hendersonville. If you are looking for it, it is on the left side of the road heading to Asheville. They sell a lot of things, but I was looking for ideas to reupholster our new dining room chairs, and fabric. trim and ideas for curtains. Lots of options once we are in the house.
Trim for the Living Room Drapes
I bought velvet drapes from Ikea for the fabric, but I plan to line them. I was also thinking of adding some kind of trim. So that’s where I went first, looking for inspiration. Foam & Fabrics Outlet sells hundreds of decorative trims, tassels, fringe, braid and cords.
I’ve seen some drapes I really like with a panel at the top, then a row of tassels like this where the two fabrics join. I am thinking I would like to put some kind of Chinoiserie at the top of the velvet, then the trim, then the velvet.
There are a lot of options, but it all has to work together. So, I took a lot of photos.
I was just thinking fringe or braid, but I saw a photo with tassels…
This is what I came to look for. But something in plain navy, which they didn’t have enough of.
Oh my goodness I love these pompoms! What about in the guestroom, which is really for the grandgirls?
They have a lot of trim with beads, even sequins, spangles, and glitter.
They would rather have fancy castley beads than fun pompoms. They are much more princessy.
Chinoiserie
Anyway, back to what I came for. Some kind of Chinoiserie type fabric in blue, either navy or cobalt or somewhere in between to make a top panel on the drapes and to recover the dining room chairs.
They had exactly what I was looking for, but in the wrong colors.
I would like two coordinating prints like this.
This has the right weight. And the label says it is stain and soil resistant.
This one is too soft and light weight. But the print really appeals to me.
If it came in the right colors, it might be ideal for the curtains in the bedroom.
This would really work if it were heavier weight. It goes with the red leather sofa and the turquoise velvet drapes. Maybe use this to line the drapes?
This has all the right colors, but it’s a little too Chinese.
Oh I LOVE this!!! I wish it came in blue! It is a city, sorta a New York City, with all of the Blue Willow motif around it. The blue willow bridge and birds in a New Yorkesque print. I’ve gotta find something to do with this.
I think I’m going to go back and buy some to sew a skirt or maybe an apron.
Much less fun, but the colors are ideal. These are sheer with embroidery in cobalt and navy. The fabric has a very nice feel.
Anyway, I didn’t end up buying a thing. Nothing was perfect. And there is no deadline.
