Plumbers Return
The plumbers came back. They connected our house to city water and sewer. They installed the dishwasher, put in the toilets and the bath and kitchen fixtures.
They started out digging by hand close to the house, then used this digger.
The gas and electric were marked, but no one had marked where the gutter drain pipe was. They said this happens all the time. They had everything they needed on the truck to fix it. They cut the smashed pipe and screwed in new pieces.
This is where the water and sewer pipes connect. Earlier they had dug up the road and put in the taps for us.
The section of water pipe that is closest to the house is a flexible line.
There are two shut-off valves, one for the city and one for us.
They put a wire by the pipes, so they can find PVC with a metal detector. Probably redundant, since the pipes run straight from the house to the box.
They put in the toilets and bath fixtures.
They put in the kitchen sink and hooked up the dishwasher.
This is the bath faucet. They aren’t done in this photo. I like the fixtures! They are all the Linden Collection made by Delta. They look really good for the price!

The plumbers put in a ProFlo PFXT51 Water Heater Safety Tank. I had to look that up. It is a Potable Water Expansion Tank.
When water heats up, it expands. Water heaters have a safety relief valve. That keeps the water pressure from getting too high. But these drip. That’s how they work. You’ve seen the pipe coming out of your hot water heater that may run to outside your house?
The ProFlo PFXT51 Water Heater Safety Tank is a thermal expansion tank. It is put on where the cold water enters our new water heater to create a reservoir for the expanded water.
This thermal expansion tank is designed to maintain safe water pressures in a domestic water heating system that utilizes a backflow preventer or check valve. It features a butyl rubber diaphragm and polypropylene liner to separate the system water from the tank’s inner walls and pre-charge. The system connection is stainless steel and the tank is finished with an appliance quality paint to minimize corrosion.
I thought these were some kind of part for the hot water heater, too. But they just set them down on top of it. They are the water taps for outside.
The inspector came. We passed.
