Garage Door
When we drove to the new house on Monday, we saw a truck that said U Save Insulation and Fireplaces. Confusing. I thought the insulation was done and we are not having Schumacher put in our fireplaces.
They were installing the garage door.
We spent a week at the beach with the family. Last time we left, they sneaked in and did lots of things while we weren’t looking. This time we didn’t expect much. We are still waiting on the city to get back to us on the sidewalks. The cobalt Corian for the countertops is on back order. It is a good thing they didn’t order it early. The counter has ended up being bigger than expected.
When we got back Sunday it was raining and we were tired, so it was Monday before we got there. They had finished putting the shelves in the closets and they were installing the garage door.
Our contract doesn’t say a lot about the garage. This is it:
Garage Door
The included 16′ x 7′ raised panel garage door is constructed of embossed, high tensile steel panels that give the look of wood with the strength of steel. A two coat coat, baked on white finish is maintenance free for years. The garage door has a polyurethane insulation with a R-9 insulating value
Garage door opener
This garage door opener features a 1/2 hp motor that operates 7 ft. and 8 ft. garage door, and comes with two transmitters.
Garage Service Door (internal muntins)
Additional door prices include an exterior light fixture & switch, and additional GFI outlet and steps to grade (no steps needed on Garage Service Doors)
It doesn’t need steps because it leads to the carport, which is the same level.
The only other things on the contract, scattered all over, says:
- There will be G.F.I. electrical outlets front & back and in the garage (per plan). (vca1916)
- Exterior garage walls and garage ceilings are not insulated (per plan).
- The garage is completely finished with drywall (per plan).
- The garage walls (per plan) are completely painted.
Installing the Garage Door
So, here is what we know about our garage door.
The garage door has reinforcing bars to keep it from blowing in.
The track has a spring assembly. It is easier to push the door up than it is to pull it down.
They made a lot of adjustments before they attached the door to the ceiling.
They ran an extension cord to the garage door opener to make sure it worked.
They made a lot of little adjustments to make sure that it raised and lowered smoothly.
The stickers were applied by the installer. Cliff collected all the papers and the two clickers. There is another clicker by the door from the laundry room into the garage.
This is the box they took the garage door opener out of.

I asked about the sign on the truck. They are the crew that did some of our insulation. They are also the same crew that put in the closet shelves.
So, here it is. All installed. It is still cold and drizzly. I hate winter.
The city has got back to us. They prefer we pay into the city sidewalk fund. So, we don’t get a sidewalk. Someone else does. But it will cost a bit less and it won’t slow up our getting a CO.
