Inspiration: Farmhouse Makeover
The lap siding is white, with white board and batten on the center
A house near where we are building got a whole new look with just a few farmhouse style details.
Honestly, I don’t even remember what the house used to look like. I’ve driven down this road a hundred times and never even noticed it. I’m sure it looked like the rest of the houses on this road, nice, but not noticeable. White paint, a metal pent roof over the garage and farmhouse style lighting make all the difference.
2-Story Front
I think the center 2-story bit is an addition, too. It really makes a difference! The small 2-Story front has board and batten siding. I don’t know what was there before. A lot of the houses have just a flat roof line with a little indent under it so that you can stand out of the rain while you unlock the front door.
White Paint
Nothing says farmhouse like white paint. If it was painted white before, I never noticed. But white is perfect to get this farmhouse look. They painted the lap siding and the board and batten siding on the center addition white.
Board Walk
The rest of the houses in the neighborhood have cement steps and walkway. The boardwalk is seamless as it goes to the front deck. It leads straight onto the front porch, instead of the steps down and then back up like on the rest of the houses in the neighborhood.
Covered Deck
The front porch looks like a covered deck with a metal shed roof.
The covered deck has a caged fan, just the right size for the small space.
They added a barn-style gooseneck wall light is right over the large house numbers.

Pent Roof Over Garage Doors
They added a small pent roof to the front of the garage. It is exactly the right scale.
The garage uses the same barn-style gooseneck wall lights as the front porch.
The contrasting paint on the garage doors matches the shingles, the metal roof over the garage doors and the barn style lighting.
