Project: Keyless Door Locks
There’s an app for that.
When I got a keyless lock on the car, I asked my husband why we couldn’t make the house keyless, too.
So he set up a Nexia Home system and I love it. We have keypad locks for every door. You can unlock the door with a code or using an app on your phone. This is great when we are on vacation and we have someone coming in to take care of our pets.
Then we added the thermostat, so I can change the temperature from the app on my phone.
And we added lots of cameras. Now we can spy on the dogs.
It is very easy to set up. Nothing is wired.
Nexia Bridge
You just get a Nexia Bridge, then pick everything you want to run off it. It uses Z-Wave technology, which is in a lot of things. The bridge is pretty small. It is plugged into the wireless router. It is usually tucked in by the printer, but I pulled it out so you can see it.
Locks
Every door has a lock. We even put them on the garage and the office. We can lock or unlock them with the code or the phone app. We can generate codes for people who are going to come in, either one-time use codes or codes that are good during certain hours. When the code is used, we are alerted.
Cameras
You can watch live, take snapshots or record video. When the door code is used, we are alerted and we can watch what is going on with the cameras.
Thermostat
It is a 7-day programmable thermostat that works perfectly with the heat pump we already had. I like that it also records how long it has run and reminds me when to change the filter. When we travel, we can save energy, but then adjust the temperature to something more comfortable before we get home.
I turn it warmer without getting out of bed if I’m cold. I have gotten very lazy an spoiled.
Lights
My husband has lights set up to go on and off on different days at different times. You plug in the enabled dimmer to the power, then plug any lamp into the dimmer and that light is programmable, controlled by the app.
Nexia App
Everything is right on my phone! It’s like having a remote for the house. It is super easy to use. I use an iPhone. My husband is on an Android. We are both happy with the MyNexia interface.
